Veo video resolution: 720p, 1080p or 4K, and which one you really need
2026-10-20 · 4 min read
When you download a video from Gemini or Veo, the size depends on how you made it. This guide explains the common sizes and which one makes sense for your use. Google changes plans and limits often, so check Google’s own help pages for what your account gives you today.
What the sizes mean
| Name | Landscape (16:9) | Portrait (9:16) |
|---|---|---|
| 720p | 1280 × 720 | 720 × 1280 |
| 1080p | 1920 × 1080 | 1080 × 1920 |
| 4K | 3840 × 2160 | 2160 × 3840 |
What Google offers
- Google’s developer pages describe Veo 3 and Veo 3 Fast as able to give 1080p, and 9:16 (portrait) video is supported.
- Veo 3.1 is described as making short clips at 720p, 1080p or 4K.
- In the Gemini app, which size you get can depend on your plan. We could not find one official table, so please check Google’s help page.
What Instagram does with your video
- The recommended size for reels is 1080 × 1920 (9:16). The smallest accepted is about 540 × 960.
- A 4K file is brought down to 1080 wide anyway, so you gain nothing but a heavier file.
- In the Instagram app, switch on Upload at highest quality in the media quality settings, so slow connections do not make it worse.
Which one should you use?
- Reels, stories and Shorts: 1080 × 1920 is the best fit. 720p is fine for a quick post.
- Client videos and websites: 1080p, landscape or portrait, depending on the layout.
- 4K: only if the client really asks for it. Image Cleaner works up to 1080p, so 4K videos cannot be cleaned there.
Where the sparkle sits
The Gemini / Veo sparkle is in the bottom-right corner, and in the files we looked at it keeps the same place and size from one video to the next in the same size. Image Cleaner searches for it in every video instead of assuming a place, so both 720p and 1080p videos work. See how the sparkle is removed from a video.
